What is Adobe Experience Platform Launch?

Adobe Experience Platform Launch is a new "next-gen" tag management solution. Like Adobe's other tag management product, Dynamic Tag Manager, Launch is based on the acquisition of Satellite from Search Discovery in 2013. But Launch is built to facilitate a more open, integrated marketing technology stack. Launch plays nicely with Adobe and non-Adobe products. It includes an open API and a catalog of extensions (like an app store of pre-built integrations to other platforms) so that data can flow across the user's marketing ecosystem.

For users of DTM who want to upgrade to Launch, Adobe offers the ability to redirect existing DTM embed codes to point to Launch by Adobe.

We use Abode Experience Platform Launch as a replacement for GTM. The platform is our implementation method for all Adobe Experience products - so is the backbone of our Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target implementations and works in a very streamlined manner across 100+ websites, 5+ platforms and a number of different divisions. As well as Adobe products, we use Launch to implement various other products such as Hotjar, Addthis and SAS.
  • Scalability
  • Flexibility
  • Extensions
  • Knowledge barrier of entry
  • Expanded extension library
  • Copy and paste between libraries
Adobe Experience Platform Launch feels (and likely is!) literally made for rolling out Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target. Both products have extensive official extension support within Launch which makes an otherwise complicated and multi-level infrastructure as easy as it can possibly be. Anyone who has Google Tag Manager experience will find a lot to love with Adobe Experience Platform Launch.

  • Shaved considerable amount of time off Adobe Analytics roll out
  • Made a launch of Adobe Target viable across multiple CMS'
  • Reduced maintenance staff compared to GTM (~30% less)
Adobe Experience Platform Launch stacks up incredibly well against Google Tag Manager. With an extensive, powerful extension library it is far, far easier to implement Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target in Adobe Experience Platform Launch, and doing so via any other method afterward would feel archaic in comparison. It's a lot easier to streamline and control at a global level.
Adobe Experience Platform Launch is a difficult product to learn but once learnt, easy to jump from beginner to experienced level user very quickly. Every area of the product seems designed for the user, which translates to it being very usable and flexible. Product settings are always where you expect them to be, which makes things a lot easier to get used to!
The support for Adobe Experience Platform Launch is very hit and miss, as with the majority of Adobe products. If you get the right support engineer at the right time, who understands your issue and knows the product well enough - you will get a great experience. If you're doing anything custom or unknown to them, it can be frustrating.

Adobe Experience Platform is an innovative way to bring data and software together. It can simply do things by creating one dashboard with multiple technologies rather than trying to log in to places individually. This can save time and increase a business's productivity. Since it's newer, there's still a lot of opportunity for growth, but it appears to have a promising future.
  • Friendly interface.
  • Analytics data.
  • Flexible and innovative.
  • Minor bugs.
  • Not many people are using it yet.
  • Need technical knowledge to integrate some features.
It's great for reporting and putting data in one place. Building real-time profiles can help a business run better by understanding what is going on with its customers. I do not believe this would be as necessary for small businesses but would be good to implement with growth. I also wouldn't recommend this if you weren't going to put the work into fully utilizing their features.

  • Can now see customer data.
  • Can streamline our technology.
  • Data is easy to read and understand.
As far as Adobe products, I've been using them for years. You can tell this is a newer product, but based on all their other technology, I believe there is much that they can do and implement in the future. I believe more people will be using this and it will become even easier to integrate in the future.
Adobe Creative Cloud Express (formerly Adobe Spark), Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator CC
It is easy to manage the interface and read the data, however, it does require technical knowledge to integrate. However, most technologies do require technical knowledge so with that in mind it is not outside the scope of expectations. At times it can be a little difficult to understand, however, I believe they will be working to simplify things in the future.
I have not yet personally worked much with the support, but I hear it can be cumbersome. I have heard feedback that they can be a little delayed in their responses or it can take some time to resolve the issue. I have heard positive things about their support as well.

Adobe Experience Platform Launch helped us streamline all of our content, integrations, and user experience. We were able to use real-time insights to create top-notch customer experiences. Adobe is a leading marketing solution that enables market leafing insights and solutions. I would totally recommend the Adobe Experience Platform Launch in the industry.
  • Real time data availability
  • Real time analytics
  • Uses AI driven insights to deliver customized experiences
  • Backend schema experience could be easier to manage
  • Connectors could be easier to manage
  • Pricing strategy could be more competitive
A good scenario is when you need to target market ad campaigns, and you need to customize the customer journey. For example, we need to capture digital information from all channels on a customer so that we can use that data to turn into useful insights and a specific target market for our consumers, making their experience specific to them.

  • Optimizely Data Platform (formerly Zaius)
Adobe is the industry leader. No contest, hands down.
It is an all-in-one platform that combines all aspects of the customer experience journey.
The support team is amazing, and they are very knowledgeable and always available to answer basic to complex use cases and technical questions.

Adobe Experience Platform Launch can be used for creating triggered based behaviour that will execute changes on the site that the user is browsing. However, the tool has proofed to be very useful for integrating other tools from the Adobe stack (mostly) into the website in question. Before Adobe Experience Platform Launch (or DTM even before that) was available, it was difficult to maintain the integrations with other tools, what is now very easy to enable.
  • Easy and intuitive interface
  • Having different environments for development and testing
  • Simple integration of other tools by using the built-in connectors
  • Vast pallet of options to use as trigger and actions of the rules
  • Great flexibility for the user
  • Challenging to debug if the rules do not follow a proper naming convention
  • Some parts of the interface are buggy, when clicking the "go back" button
  • Technical knowledge is needed for operating the tool
  • Adding the Launch library to your website will slow down the loading of the pages slightly
Adobe Experience Platform Launch is a tool that comes in very handy, especially for companies that use several tools from the Adobe stack (such as Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Adobe Audience Manager, or Adobe Experience Platform Launch) due to the out-of-the-box connector that enables the configurator to set up the corresponding integrations with just a few clicks. It is also a great tool for integrating other non-Adobe tools and making your website more dynamic.

However, for companies that do not have any other Adobe tools and that are not looking into creating triggered actions on the website interface, Adobe Experience Platform Launch might not be necessary.

  • Increased time-to-market when implementing integrations on the website
  • Reduction of costs due to faster execution and effective maintenance
  • Improved user experience, compared to previous tools used (i.e., better loading times, more personalised experiences, etc.)
Adobe Experience Platform Launch, compared to the other competitors in the market, offers a better user experience due to a very intuitive interface and the ability to use many different configuration options in a straightforward manner. Also, the management of errors and library environments helps in the maintenance of the rules and improves the overall process.
The menus are easy to navigate, and the interface is user-friendly, using color-coding on most of the screens. Also, it is intuitive to follow the library approval and compilation process when the additions and/or changes to the rules have been done. Adobe Experience Platform Launch is also simple to integrate into the corresponding website.
Adobe Support would provide proper answers when an issue or a question arises after using Adobe Experience Platform Launch or any related configurations. However, it usually takes them a few days to get the right information over to you unless it is a high-priority issue affecting a live or production environment.

We use Launch to deploy analytics tools and vendor tags on our website. It is used by several people in our analytics and engineering teams, so Launch's granular user permissions feature comes in very handy. We are able to deploy analytics code and vendor tags outside of our release cycle, which is a major plus.
  • Granular user permissions.
  • Asynchronous deployment option.
  • Full control of code execution timing (wherever technically possible).
  • Documentation could be better.
  • It should be available to everyone, not just Adobe customers.
If you're an Adobe customer, especially Adobe Analytics, Launch should be your first choice. If you're not an Adobe customer, you should call them and tell [them] it should be available to everyone.

Native mobile app version was not available until very recently, so I can't evaluate it yet.
